The over-dubbed version of the Jamaican original (see ABON 0153). On which, in order to reach a broader audience of British and American Rock fans, additional Rock-tinged guitar, played expertly by white American Rock guitarist, Wayne Perkins, is added to the original Jamaican tapes. Most obviously, in the form of an intro and a solo.
Blackwell and The Wailers were delighted with the results and this version of this track was the one that featured on the released version of ‘Catch A Fire’ – without any reference to the over-dubbing session musicians on the album credits. For years I wondered whether it was played by Peter Tosh or Bob Marley himself. But when the original Jamaican – without overdub – version was released in 2001, I realised it didn’t matter because, beautiful as Wayne Perkins’ guitaring is, the track is more beautiful without it.
Released 1973.
Available on the double deluxe re-release of ‘Catch A Fire’, which also contains the Jamaican versions as well: Amazon
