Here’s the original ‘Pinetop’s Boogie Woogie’ from 1928 as referenced in ABON 0181.

The first and only Pinetop Smith hit.

The first Boogie Woogie hit record.

The first record to feature the words Boogie Woogie.

And like all the many hundreds of Boogie Woogies that followed in its tracks, it’s difficult to imagine it being played on anything except a piano.

Unless you are Blind Willie McTell of course.

the vault

Tracks are usually filed in the Vault in the year they were released. There are exceptions:

a. very old tracks tend to be filed in the year they were recorded and

b. anything that has been released for the first time many years after it was recorded has been filed in the year of recording rather than release.
